Othello Guide: Ice Spears, Frost Pivot, and Teams

Learn how Othello joins a ranged Frost shell as its close-range pivot, uses Ice Spears for a short payoff, and hands DragonSword: Awakening fights back to range.

Quick answer

Best for players who want a safer ranged Frost shell with one purposeful close-range turn. Othello lets the ranged pair make space, enters with Ice Spears when the target closes or Frost is ready, then hands the fight back to range before the exchange becomes crowded.

Who should play Othello

Pick Othello if you prefer a team that controls distance first and uses melee only for a short, deliberate answer. Some players write his name as Othell; this guide uses Othello for the character and route.

He is less comfortable if you want one hero to remain in close pressure for the entire encounter. His job is to pivot into the target once the ranged shell has created room, then restore that shell for the next phase.

Quick playstyle

Use Cerese or Dana to create space and watch the target's route. Bring Othello in when the target closes the distance or when the Frost setup gives the team a clear short payoff. Settle that close phase with Ice Spears, then leave through a lateral exit instead of turning it into a long chase.

The goal is not to keep Othello permanently on the field. The goal is to let the ranged team stay comfortable until a close-range pivot is genuinely useful.

Core mechanics

Frost pivot

Othello is the close-range answer inside a ranged Frost shell. Enter only after the ranged heroes have made enough space to keep the return route open.

Ice Spears

Ice Spears give the close phase a focused purpose. Use them after the setup is visible, then decide whether the team should finish the short turn or return to range immediately.

Frozen Burst payoff

Use Frozen Burst as a simple name for the short Frost-and-Ice-Spears payoff: make the setup, take the close answer, and leave before the target turns the team's ranged plan into a crowded melee exchange.

  1. Let Cerese or Dana establish open space and keep a lateral exit available.
  2. Wait until the target closes or the Frost setup gives the team a clear entry.
  3. Switch to Othello and use Ice Spears for the short close-range payoff.
  4. Complete the Frozen Burst phase only while the target and exit lane stay readable.
  5. Hand the fight back to a ranged hero before the close exchange turns into a chase.

Team roles

Cerese-Othello-Dana ranged pivot

Cerese creates the Frost setup from range, Othello enters with Ice Spears for the short Frozen Burst payoff, and Dana restores the ranged shell before the team gives Cerese the next open lane.

Cerese-Othello-Reina close-range reset

Cerese creates room, Othello uses the Frost setup for the short close-range pivot, Reina restores spacing after the payoff, and Cerese returns once the team has an open lane for another ranged phase.

Strengths

  • Gives a ranged Frost team a clear close-range answer.
  • Makes Ice Spears a short payoff instead of a permanent melee commitment.
  • Lets the team restore its safer ranged shell after the target crowds it.

Weaknesses

  • Entering without space can trap the team in a crowded close exchange.
  • The pivot loses value if Frost or the return route is not ready.
  • Extending the Ice Spears phase too long can turn the payoff into a chase.

Common mistakes

  1. Asking Othello to begin every exchange at close range.
  2. Spending the close phase before the team has space or Frost setup.
  3. Turning the Ice Spears payoff into a long chase.
  4. Forgetting to hand the fight back to a ranged teammate after the pivot.

How to unlock Othello

If Othello is locked, progress the main story and check the in-game Fate's Invitation and Exchange menus. Choose Othello only if he appears in the current Exchange list; otherwise, continue with the current objective and check again later. The character unlock guide explains the flow.
