Ornette Guide: Scythe Control, Knockdown, and Teams

Learn how Ornette uses broad scythe control, Electrocution, and Knockdown to convert a team opening into a safe DragonSword: Awakening handoff.

Quick answer

Best for players who want a forgiving control turn between a teammate's opening and the next handoff. Ornette uses broad scythe pressure to work from a visible condition into Electrocution and Knockdown, then gives the opening to recovery or a ready finisher.

Who should play Ornette

Pick Ornette if you prefer reacting to a team state over memorising a long personal string. Her scythe gives her room to control a close-to-mid-range exchange, but the important decision is whether the opener has created a condition that the team can actually use.

She is less comfortable as a hero asked to begin every fight alone. Ornette's best turns start after the team has made the target readable and end as soon as Knockdown creates the next useful job.

Quick playstyle

Wait for Theresia or another opener to establish a visible condition or make a Signal available. Enter with broad scythe pressure, confirm the team state, and use Electrocution and Knockdown as the cue to hand the target to the next hero.

Do not force the same order into every encounter. If the condition is absent, the team needs recovery, or the target has moved out of the scythe's useful space, reset and let the opener create a clearer turn.

Core mechanics

Scythe control

Ornette's scythe gives her broad close-to-mid-range coverage. Enter when that coverage can catch the target without cutting off the team's exit lane.

Electrocution

Electrocution is the state to look for after the opener has made the target readable. Treat it as a confirmation for the team, not a reason to keep swinging without a next step.

Knockdown

Knockdown is Ornette's cleanest handoff point. Once it appears, choose the next role—recovery or payoff—before the control window disappears.

  1. Let the opener create a readable condition or available Signal.
  2. Enter Ornette where her scythe can cover the target and leave a lateral exit.
  3. Use broad pressure and confirm Electrocution before committing the control turn.
  4. Confirm Knockdown, then switch to recovery or the teammate with the next payoff.
  5. Return to the opener after the team has reset its position and cooldowns.

Team roles

Theresia-Ornette-Lute control handoff

Theresia begins with a status opening, Ornette confirms the condition with Electrocution and Knockdown, and Lute receives the handoff for recovery before the trio returns to Theresia for the next readable status turn.

Theresia-Ornette-Roxy aggressive handoff

Theresia creates the opening, Ornette uses broad control until Knockdown is available, Roxy takes the aggressive follow-up, and Theresia returns when the team has room to begin the next status route.

Strengths

  • Covers a broad close-to-mid-range control space with the scythe.
  • Turns Electrocution and Knockdown into a clear team handoff.
  • Gives a team a forgiving control bridge between an opener and its next role.

Weaknesses

  • Needs the opener to make a usable condition before her best turn begins.
  • Can leave the team exposed when no recovery role is ready after Knockdown.
  • Overcommitting after the control state appears can miss the better handoff.

Common mistakes

  1. Entering before the opener has created a readable condition.
  2. Swinging through an unavailable Signal instead of resetting the team state.
  3. Keeping Ornette out after Knockdown has already created the handoff.
  4. Choosing the aggressive third role when the team needs recovery instead.

How to unlock Ornette

If Ornette is locked, progress the main story and check the in-game Fate's Invitation and Exchange menus. Choose Ornette only if she appears in the current Exchange list; otherwise, continue with the current objective and check again later. The character unlock guide explains the flow.
